Chicago's Historic Allerton Hotel Undergoes Makeover

The Allerton Hotel, an extraordinary historic landmark located on the Magnificent Mile in the heart of Chicago has recently undergone a $10.7 million renovation. The Chartres Lodging Group, LLC purchased the hotel in a joint venture with Perry Capital in November 2006. The John Hardy Group (JHG) was retained as the Project Manager to implement the renovation.

The Allerton Hotel personifies Chicago’s style and sophistication. In the roaring twenties, The Allerton Hotel was one of the first high rises to grace Chicago's fashionable Michigan Avenue. JHG who specializes in all types of Hospitality Development Services and The Chartres Lodging Group stayed true to their commitment to historic preservation and state-of-the-art amenities. “Months of planning, as well as weekly coordination meetings between Chartres Lodging and JHG helped streamline the process significantly”, said John Hardy, CEO and President of The John Hardy Group.

The property was described as, "in need of an upgrade”. The renovation called for moving the Lobby from the 3rd floor to the 2nd, redesigning the area to also accommodate a contemporary full service restaurant and bar. The 3rd floor became the formal Buckingham Ballroom with its rich architectural features. The assignment also consisted of renovation to the remaining naturally lit meeting spaces, public spaces, and fitness center, as well as the stylish and sophisticated 443 guestrooms. Due to the historic configuration of the hotel there are 111 different room layouts, which presented significant project management challenges.
