2006 News <<BackThe John Hardy Group Completes Disaster Insurance Response For Katrina Damaged Lindy Boggs Medical Center[ATLANTA]—Following the unprecedented devastation of Hurricane Katrina, The John Hardy Group was requested to evaluate the damage to the Lindy Boggs Medical Center (formerly the Memorial Medical Center) in New Orleans. Although flood waters and heavy winds had crippled the 188 bed hospital, it remained open for days following the storm, housing hundreds of stranded patients, evacuees and abandoned pets. Because of the lack of supplies and electricity, damage was also caused by supply drops and rescue efforts. Throughout difficult and hazardous conditions, The John Hardy Group team, working with Crawford and Company, produced a highly detailed redevelopment estimate encompassing multi million dollars worth of damages to the hospital and 8 surrounding office and support buildings. The complex evaluation also included segregating the damages by the various causes of loss. The Evaluation Report generated by The John Hardy Group team would require months of on-site work consisting of 16 hour days, 7 days a week. “Our dedicated team realized the importance of the report they were generating and sacrificed a great deal to accomplish the task required of them. The end result was the insurers ability to expedite a advantageous settlement and the owners were able to plan their next steps to recovery”, says John Hardy, president and CEO of The John Hardy Group. |
