Hotel Inter-Continental Miami Nears Final Phase of Multi-Million Dollar Renovation

[Miami, FL]—The Hotel Inter-Continental Miami has completed phase two of a three-phase, multi-million dollar renovation of the landmark downtown property, announced Frederik de Roode, Regional Vice President Operations Southeast. The Hotel Inter-Continental Miami is owned by Atlanta-based Bass Hotels & Resorts.

Phase two, which was recently completed, included the renovation of 320 guest rooms and suites, encompassing the property’s 19th through 34th floors. The scope of the renovation included all new room furniture, updated bathrooms, soft goods, and technological updates to better serve the business traveler.

Rooms accommodating the business traveler include all-in-one facsimile, scan and copy machines, dual-line telephones with voice mail and data ports for personal computers, oversized writing desks, ergonomic chairs and enhanced lighting. All guest rooms offer oversized picture windows and bathrooms, including separate showers and baths, coffee makers, irons and ironing boards as well as express checkout.

This aspect of the renovation also included significant back-of-house and mechanical work, including chillers, cooling towers, enhanced dehumidification systems, and state-of-the-art weatherproofing. The 639-room property’s complete renovation will be concluded before third quarter 2001.

The initial phase of the renovation included the complete remodeling of the hotel’s lobby, restaurant, bar, and common areas, including the creation of the property’s new, highly acclaimed, multi-function restaurant concept-Indigo. It also included significant upgrades to the hotel’s 62,000 square feet of meeting, exhibition and banquet space.

“This is an unprecedented investment in a hotel that has long been renowned as one of Miami’s finest properties,” says de Roode. “Our intent is to create a property that is unmatched in the scope of products, services, and meetings and convention facilities.”

The hotel is ‘Florida style’ décor – best exemplified in the new lobby and the property’s multi-dimensional Indigo Restaurant – is being utilized throughout the rooms, suites and common areas.

The state-of-the-art, 34 story, 639-room Hotel Inter-Continental Miami is situated in the heart of downtown Miami’s financial district, overlooking Biscayne bay, and adjacent to the fashionable shops and restaurants of Bayside Marketplace. The hotel offers more than 62,000 square feet of meeting, exhibition and banquet space, totaling 26 rooms. It can accommodate 900 people for conferences, 2,700 for receptions and 1,200 for banquets. As to dining, the property’s multi-function restaurant, named Indigo, is a drastic departure from traditional corporate looking.
